Blair Underwood is heading to Broadway.
The actor will make his stage debut as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams‘ A Streetcar Named Desire, when it opens in Spring 2012.
The play, also a 1951 movie starringMarlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, is Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and revolves around a socialite, Blanch DuBois, who moves in with her sister Stella and Stella’s husband Stanley (Underwood).
Streetcar was last seen on Broadway in 2005 and starred Natasha Richardson, Amy Ryan and John C. Reilly.
This version will be directed by Emily Mann. No theater has been announced yet.
