Buju Banton 'sentenced to ten years in prison'

Buju Banton has been sentenced to ten years behind bars in his recent drug case. 
The reggae star had originally pleaded not guilty to three drug charges following his December 2009 arrest when he was found trying to purchase cocaine from an undercover police officer. 
Banton was later found guilty on all counts, including "conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offence and using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking offence". 
Judge James T Moody sentenced Banton on Thursday to serve ten years at Miami's FCI prison facility, a sentence which is the minimum allowed by law, reports MTV News.
Banton's attorney David Markus reportedly plans to file an appeal on his client's behalf and hopes that the artist will be released from prison.
