Simon Cowell won't be needing a pre-nuptial agreement after all. He and fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy have ended their relationship, according to celebrity gossip website Perez Hilton.
Former "American Idol" judge Cowell and makeup artist Hussainy (a native of Afghanistan) met in 2002, when she began working for "American Idol." The couple got engaged in 2010, after dating for about a year. Cowell announced their engagement a few months before he left "American Idol."
Neither Cowell nor Hussainy has publicly commented on the reasons for the breakup, but Cowell will no doubt talk about it to the media at some point. Hussainy was media-shy about giving interviews throughout her relationship with Cowell, and that is unlikely to change now that she and Cowell have gone their separate ways.
Even if Hussainy and Cowell never go public about why they broke up, there was some indication that the relationship might not last when Cowell announced in February 2011 that he was delaying his wedding plans until after the launch of "The X Factor" U.S., which premieres on Fox in September 2011. A wedding date had never been set.
Before Cowell and Hussainy got engaged, the never-married Cowell said in many interviews over the years that he did not want to get married or have children. His desire to remain a childless bachelor is said to be one of the reasons why Cowell's six-year relationship with British TV personality Terri Seymour ultimately ended in 2008, since she reportedly wanted to get married and have children.
